About Dandadan
Dandadan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ service since April 2021, with its chapters collected in 13 tankōbon volumes as of January 2024. An anime television series adaptation produced by Science Saru is set to premiere in October 2024.
Momo Ayase is a high school girl who believes in ghosts but not aliens, while her classmate Okarun believes in aliens but not ghosts. In a bet to determine who’s correct, the two decide to separately visit locations associated with both the occult and the supernatural—Ayase visiting the former and the boy visiting the latter. When the two reach their respective places it turns out that they were half-right, both aliens and ghosts do exist.
In June 2021, Dandadan was nominated for the 7th Next Manga Award in the Best Web Manga category, securing the second position among the 50 nominees. It also ranked fourth in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! list by Takarajimasha for the best manga of 2022 aimed at male readers. The series received a nomination for the 15th Manga Taisho in 2022, securing the seventh position with 53 points. Additionally, Dandadan topped both the National Bookstore Staff’s and the Manga Division’s recommended manga lists for 2022. The series claimed the fourth position in the Tsutaya Comic Awards 2022.
An anime television series adaptation was announced on November 28, 2023. The series will be produced by Science Saru, directed by Fūga Yamashiro, with a screenplay by Hiroshi Seko. Character design will be handled by Naoyuki Onda, while the design for extraterrestrial and supernatural elements will be overseen by Yoshimichi Kameda. The musical score will be composed by Kensuke Ushio. The film is expected to premiere in October 2024.
